ANNETOR was built in 1942 as a standard Board of Trade ship's lifeboat by G R W Ltd. Garden Reach Workshops Ltd. was founded in Calcutta in 1884 and are still trading today. They built many large naval ships and commercial ships over a long history. ANNETOR's lifeboat design is that of the standard P & O Line, White Star Line and merchant ships of the period, featuring a double ended hull. The teak built ship's boat most often used in warm climes and the tropics. Little is know of ANNETOR'S early history however she has been in the same family ownership some 50 years and was a much loved family boat. She was last afloat some 20 years ago and has been laid up under cover since.
Converted ships lifeboats were once a familiar sight on inland and coastal waters. They invariably displayed the imagination of the converter creating a characterful motor-cruiser or in some cases a capable sailing yacht. In the 1950 and 60s many of the Bristol Channel yacht clubs had class races for converted lifeboats. Sadly they are now particularly rare and worth preserving as part of our maritime history. ANNETOR is of lapstrake teak construction, copper fastened to steam bent oak timbers. The conversion offers fore and aft cabins with a centre wheelhouse. Fittings from the original 1950s conversion. A great summer project for all the family to get involved with and a very economical and enjoyable means of getting afloat.
